Dietary restrictions prevented me from following the recipe exactly as it was written. However, given that I never bake, I was not aiming for precision. In my case, I wanted to consider how far I could deviate from the recipe before I was no longer following it. Given that the pie was for my family, it seemed more important to accommodate their needs rather than staying faithful to the recipe. To that end, Paradise was a performance that looked at the way a tradition could be shaped or destroyed through the private gestures of husbands and fathers.
