graphite on paper
2019–2026
In China, the technique of rubbing was historically used to distribute information ranging from canonical texts to personal inscriptions. With this in mind, I made a graphite rubbing of the street near my house on a roll of paper. The rubbing is then transformed into a scroll, bound with a rubber band and placed in a box covered in 24k gold leaf. This work marks the space between the two ends of this tradition.
